Corvera's new airport 'could open this spring'
A new airport located in Corvera, Murcia is set to open its doors to the public in the near future, with the first arrival possibly even being recorded as early as this spring. Pedro Garcia-Balibrea, the president of Murcia's Chamber of Commerce, believes that the development could prove a particularly positive move for those investing in Spanish property in the future.
In order to underline his point about how the travel hub could act as a vital asset to promote residential tourism across Spain, Mr Garcia-Balibrea was keen to stress: "Many Europeans could have a second home in a place like Murcia and the best way of arriving from overseas will be this upcoming airport."
Although there is no concrete date set for when the airport in Corvera will officially open to the public, experts have recently forecasted in a press release by Mercers that a launch sometime between this spring and this summer does sound feasible.
Such a prediction appears even more rational when people factor in that Antonio Sanchez-Solis, the director general of transport and ports in the Spanish region, has already revealed that the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has approved the validation procedures by 80 per cent.
Regardless of when the date of the Corvera travel hub's opening is set, it appears that the facility will immediately receive plenty of support. As reported in February, it has been announced that all commercial flights in and out of Murcia San Javier will be transferred to Corvera airport without delay.
Chris Mercer, the director of Mercers, commented: "All airlines involved have agreed to cooperate. With 1.2 million passengers using San Javier in 2012, this isn't a bad starting point for a new airport."
Reports in Spain also suggest that passengers using Alicante's El Altet Airport are likely to find the new travel hub more convenient due to its location and accessibility.
