North American retirees 'should consider buying property in Spain'

The eurozone crisis has opened up opportunities for older people in North America to move to Europe to retire.

This is the opinion of International Living, which stated the ongoing economic problems on the continent have made property and costs of living much more affordable to US residents.

A further reason to consider moving into a property in Spain is the quality of life on offer in the European nation.

Theresa Osinga, an expatriate living in Spain, told the publication that, even in some of the country's more expensive provinces, like Navarre, housing and food is still affordable.

She stated paying a little extra to live in Navarre is "well worth it", adding "the city and surrounding towns are clean and well-kept, the transportation system is excellent and the public administration is easier to deal with than in other regions of Spain".

Another option for those seeking real estate in the nation is the Balearic Islands, where property values have held up better than elsewhere in Spain.

Property investment firm Kensington recently explained that, although the archipelago hasn't experienced the same fall in house prices as other destinations in the country, it now costs less to acquire a home here and means it is possible to get more for your money.
